Five new cases of polio have been detected in Chaman, Balochistan, as poliovirus was confirmed in four girls and a boy. The WHO has decided to immediately start polio vaccination in Qilla Abdullah and adjacent areas. Two polio cases were also detected in Afghanistan. World Health Organisation (WHO) Polio Wing Chief, Dr Ilyas Daray, said that detection of poliovirus in seven children in Asia on a single day was very alarming.

Meanwhile a seven-member WHO delegation headed by Dr Muhammad-Al-Muhammadi has reached Quetta. The delegation will also meet Chief Secretary Balochistan, Secretary Health to discuss arrangements for polio vaccination campaign in Qilla Abdullah.
